Friends for Life tells the timeless story of Arden Peters, 90, and Warren DeWitt, 76, two men whose lives intersected at a Wal-Mart one day. Their encounter transformed them forever, as their friendship evolved into a commitment of profound magnitude.
Their story reveals both the beauty and the pain of growing older in America. "Friends for Life" is excerpted from the one-hour film "Aging in America: The Years Ahead" produced by multimedia innovators Ed Kashi and Julie Winokur.

Its amazing what a difference Warren had on Ardens life, this video was only a small take into their lives and it was just so moving, I would love to hear how Warren is coping on his own. This video captures the importance of friendship right until the very end. I want to thank Julie and Ed for capturing such a beautiful relationship and sharing it with everyone.

I am in my final year of nursing school and taking a Community Health class. Normally it's pretty boring, but today we watched "Aging in America." There wasn't a dry eye in the class. If you haven't seen the entire film, I HIGHLY recommend it -- it's amazing. This story is particularly moving and beautiful to me. I live in mountains of east TN and this scene is common (Arden and Warren are from West Virginia). The rural, farm life and lack of financial well-being is the norm. As a nurse, these families are inspiring yet heartbreaking for you to care for. Ed and Julie do a great job really capturing the true essence of this story. The photographs speak more than words could ever say.

Thank you for sharing this. I wish my mother had formed this kind of bond with another person in her last years. She opted instead to play Mom and I think missed out on some of the joys and honestly about getting old. I thought of David Lynch's "The Straight Story" which is the best piece of fiction about agining I have ever come across. (Not that I have been looking). Fantastic piece, I love these guys.

Ed is one of the world's great photographers. Ed and Julie together tell stories full of compassion and dignity. I am moved by all of their work here, and inspired. What an exciting medium!

These are two wonderfull men. If all of us had friends like these gentleman, it would be worth having them in our lives. Friends will always be there for each other and these two people have proven that real friends will be there through good and bad. I admire these two fine men for their relationship. I hope someday I will find someone just like them. God bless.
